  Step 1: This walk starts outside the main entrance to Alnwick Infirmary (South Road, NE66 2NS). Nearest bus stop is on Bondgate Without road.

• 

  Step 2: Facing the entrance, turn right and head down the hill.

• 

  Step 3: The Tenantry Column is on the right.

• 

  Step 4: At the bottom of the hill, turn right.

• 

  Step 5: The famous Barter Books is on the other side of the road. This building used to be Alnwick Train Station.

• Step 6: Designed by North Eastern Railway chief architect William Bell, it was built in 1887. The line closed in 1968, and is now one of Britain’s largest secondhand book shops.
