  Step 1: Start on the swing bridge over the River Esk. Head east towards the old town

  Step 2: Take the first left down Sandgate with its cute little independent shops

• 

  Step 3: Take a right here through market square

• 

  Step 4: And then a left when you reach Church St. So quaint!

• 

  Step 5: If the walk doesn’t end well, you’ll know which yard to head to...

• 

  Step 6: Soon you’ll reach the start of the 199 steps as the lane bends round to the right
