Step 1: Parking is free just by the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port. Follow the signs from M53 & you’ll soon round your way to the car park.
Step 2: The National Waterways Museum is well worth a visit too. Run by the Canal & River Trust, you can explore the old houses, take a canal ride & even have a go on a virtual Ice Breaker boat.
Step 3: There’s an excellent cafe, toilets & a souvenir shop too. Entry is around £10 for adults & they last a year as well as cover entry to the Gloucester Waterways Museum too. So great value!
Step 4: Start the walk from the towpath facing the old mill. Turn away from the mill to walk in the direction of Chester.
Step 5: This is the Shropshire Union Canal which was constructed in the 1770s. It was built wide to enable river boats to use it and today you might spot a wide beam narrow boat sailing for leisure.
Step 6: This is a lovely walk that is great for the whole family. Why not look out for wildlife, colourful boats & maybe a horse or two as you go!
