The Four Follies of Barwick

Walk preview

1. 

   Step 1: Start this walk by turning right down a hedged path off Two Tower Lane.

2. 

   Step 2: Soon this path becomes a sunken lane, with sandy banks and high hedges.

3. 

   Step 3: The sandy banks make a fine home for rabbits and other burrowing wildlife!

4. 

   Step 4: As you continue downhill along this sunken path, you will reach a gap to the right, leading to the huge rough-stone base of another tower.

5. 

   Step 5: Step through the archway of this tower, to see it properly from the grassy area beyond. It was also built in 1775 for the Barwick Estate.

6. 

   Step 6: The round tower of neatly dressed stone sits high up on top of a very substantial rough stone archway, 5 metres high.
