• Step 1: This walk features some of Felixstowe’s most impressive architecture, including the work of local architect Thomas W Cotman.

• 

  Step 2: We start at Great Eastern Square and the railway station. The town’s growth hinged on the railway bringing visitors to the resort.

• Step 3: The station opened in 1898. It was designed by J Wilson and the Great Eastern Railway engineer WN Ashbee. After falling derelict, it was restored by the Ipswich Co-operative Society and reopened as Great Eastern Square in 1985.

• 

  Step 4: Notice the attractive lantern above the booking hall and the platform to the rear of the station.

  Step 5: Turn your back on Great Eastern Square and you will see the Orwell Hotel opposite.

• 

  Step 6: Look up and you will see Flemish gables and impressive chimney stacks. It was designed by John Shewell Corder in 1896.
