• Step 1: This section of the river is much harder to navigate by public transport. Buses run regularly to the bridge from Oxford or Witney & from Newbridge to Witney hourly. We had breakfast at the Rose Revived & taxi to Swinford Bridge.

• 

  Step 2: There’s a bus stop on the south side of the river where it’s safe for taxis to stop. Head up the pavement on the right towards the bridge.

• 

  Step 3: Before reaching the bridge there’s a path to the right leading down to the river. Head down this path.

• 

  Step 4: You’ll see the river through the trees and a signpost for the Thames Path. Turn left towards Swinford Bridge.

• 

  Step 5: Pass under the bridge. This toll bridge is one of just two privately owned on the Thames. The other is the Whitchurch Bridge by Pangbourne.
