Step 1: This wee jaunt starts off about 1km from Leswalt (Stranraer DG9 0RH). It’s a very short walk, we’re here for the views and a picnic really.
Step 2: There’s a car park onsite but not much else. There’s space for about 3 cars.
Step 3: The grass footpath leads to the solid? castellated Agnew Monument. It was built in 1850 in memory of Sir Andrew Agnew of Lochnaw Castle.
Step 4: Sir Andrew Agnew of Lochnaw Castle was once an MP for Wigtownshire.
Step 5: The footpath is very uneven and may be muddy or slippery in wet or wintry weather. Keep going. The views are worth it, promise!
Step 6: The monument also lies on the site of an old Iron Age hillfort known as the Tor of Craigoch. The old hillfort is about 2,500 years old.
