• 

  Step 1: It’s easy to park by the roadside here on the B4418 just west of Rhydd Ddu. Otherwise there’s a big off-road car park nearby at the station

• 

  Step 2: Go through the gate onto the footpath towards the lake. The signs remind you that this is sheep country, so dogs on lead for the next bit!

• 

  Step 3: Proceed down the stepped path in the direction of the lake

• 

  Step 4: At the junction of the path from Rhydd Ddu, turn right

• 

  Step 5: Soon you will reach a paved causeway alongside the lake. This was once a tramway bed, for carrying slate away from the quarries ahead of you

• 

  Step 6: Look out for waterfowl - there are often cormorants here, on the rocks
