  • Step 1: Welcome to Lindow Common. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and nature reserve. It is famous for being near Lindow Moss where the 2,000-year-old preserved bog body known as “Lindow Man” was discovered in 1984.

  • Begin your walk at the Lindow Common carpark off Racecourse Road. Make your way through the entrance towards the tree carving.

  • The woodpecker carving was created by artist Ed Pilkington in 2015 from a badly angled oak tree. It was funded by local residents.

  • Step 6: Lindow Common is home to a wide variety of birds so be sure to listen for their calls and see what you can spot. From the more common robbin to herons and mandarin ducks, you’ll get to hear lots of different songs.
