Step 1: This walk starts at the free National Trust car park on Tower Road. Cross the road. There is a great coffee and treat truck here ☕️ 🍰 🍦

Step 2: Head around the gate on the right and onto the grass.

Step 3: Straight ahead of you is King Alfred’s Tower - that’s where you’re headed. It was completed in 1772 to commemorate George III’s coronation.

Step 4: It’s nearly 49m high. It’s usually open at the weekend, free for NT members and a fee for non-members. Check their website.

Step 5: There are great views at the top across Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset. There are signs pointing out the directions of landmarks and towns.

Step 6: Facing the front door of the tower, head left onto an earth path into the woods.
