Step 1: Welcome to the Bickleigh Mill (TQ12 5LN). Our walk begins here, just at the main mill building. Please note that this walk is very steep.
Step 2: Most of this route is along quiet country lanes, so you’ll need to be very aware of vehicles throughout the walk. The first bit (until step 13) is along busier roads with limited verges. Use extreme caution.
Step 3: There’s a car park at the mill, as well as public toilets. The 55 buses to and from Exeter City Centre and Tiverton aren’t very frequent, but stop nearby. We got to Bickleigh by bus from Exeter.
Step 4: Bickleigh Mill was built in the late 18th century and was used for milling corn until the 1960s. Today, the mill is home to shopping, activities for the whole family, a cafe and restaurant, and idyllic river walks.
Step 5: When facing the mill building, begin by heading to the left, up the access drive.
Step 6: Continue straight ahead, towards and across the narrow bridge over the Exe.
