  • Step 1: Due to minimal public transport we parked near the source, in Coates, before getting a taxi to Ashton Keynes. We started walking at the White Hart. There’s a shop in the village if needed but no loos. The pub opens at noon.

  • The river runs along the high street, head away from the village centre with the river in your left and the White Hart on the right.

  • At the corner a bridge crosses the river, at the time it was very shallow. Take a left turn here down Church Walk.

  • There is deeper water in this section. A bridge crosses here and up ahead by the wall. The water passes under the garden.
